Osteopathic Manual Treatment (OMT)
Osteopathic manual treatment is a relatively gentle “hands on” approach that utilizes techniques to help improve the position, mobility and vitality of tissues in the body such as joints, ligaments, fascia and the viscera. OMT is performed in all populations from newborns to the elderly.
By assessing the position, mobility and vitality the following techniques are used to help restore circulation to the area allowing for the body to help heal itself. Below are some techniques an Osteopathic manual practitioner will use during a treatment:
Functional Techniques
Myofascial Release
Direct and Indirect- The goal is to reduce adhesions and restore function to sliding ability between tissues
Strain/Counterstrain
